Among all the creations of God, only man needs to be educated. The bird needs no tutelage to make the nest. The bee needs no schooling to make the hive. The termite needs no instructions to make the termitary. Yet, as designs of dwelling, they are tours-de - force. Designing of congenial dwelling, is the instinct for the bird, the bee and the termite. The obvious corollary is, except man, other creations of God have instinct as learning. This means, learning in respect of other creations, is circumscribed by their instincts. Thus, the bee cannot make the nest, the bird cannot make the termitarium and the termite cannot make the hive.

 

Unlike the other creations, man has instinct for learning, which warrants to be facetted through the process of Education. Obviously, engendering Education is not the monopoly of only Educational institutions. In the school of life, the process of learning stretches from the womb to the tomb. In fact, many of the stalwarts had hardly anything by way of schooling. Valmiki was but a hunter, Shakespeare, knew more of poaching, than of schooling.Tulsidas was too facetious to gain anything material from schooling.

 

This being the case, if schooling is to be purposeful and effective, it must dovetail well with the instinct for learning. To put it differently, schooling must align well, with the style of learning of the students. As an able cricket batsman pitches upon the strokes to be executed, depending upon the nature of the deliveries sent down by the bowler, the teacher will have to orchestrate the strategies depending upon the style of learning of the student. Kalidasa lays this on thick, with one of his characteristic similes.

When it rains, most of the rain drops get inconsequential. But, a single raindrop that gets into an open oyster, results in a precious pearl. Similarly, when a resourceful teacher engages with a receptive student, the outcome will be precious Education. What we strive to achieve on the campus of Prince Ashokraje Gaekwad School, is to ensure that, as many raindrops get into as many open oysters, as possible .

 

It maybe administratively convenient to presume any classroom to be homogenous, as far as students are concerned, or to take the average student, as the target to plan for the strategies, to be resorted to, in the teaching- learning process. Individuals are unique, especially with regard to the style of learning and subjecting them to the straightjacket of homogeneousness, is like packing pebbles and glass together. It will be tantamount to venturing to wade across a river, taking the average depth into consideration, if the teacher were to take the average student as the target, for the average student is a misnomer. We in Prince Ashokraje Gaekwad School are fully aware, how futile it is to endeavor to weigh live frogs in a physical balance. We tailor our strategies to suit the styles of learning of the students; not an easy task, but we never quit and keep on striving to achieve, what we have espoused as our objective.
